New wedding venue at Laggan Outdoor looking good!

This £2m development is being delivered on a 28 week programme. We have used our offsite manufacturing facilities to achieve this by concurrently building on site whilst making components and sub assemblies off site in our workshops, enabling these components to be delivered as and when they are required. These components include all the structural steelwork to the main frame, timber frames, roof structures, external cladding, internal timber cladding to steelwork, various furniture fit out items, finishing joiner work and a bar. This strategy has enabled us to meet the demanding programme.

3b starts work on a new project in Dailly for Ayrshire Housing

Four two-bedroom flats in two blocks will be created on the site of the former King’s Arms Hotel.

The development has been carefully designed by Ayr based ARPL, who also designed Ayr’s Beleisle golf pavilion recently completed by 3b construction.

The flats are designed to be exceptionally energy efficient with super insulated and airtight walls. Electricity costs (there is no gas in the village) for heating should be kept low. Solar water heaters will further reduce running costs to the tenants. Mechanical heat recovery ventilation will ensure excellent air quality as it recycles heat into each flat.

Designed to suit varying needs and with a central location, the flats will complement the existing housing supply in the village. Completion is due in January 2018.

3b Achieves Exceptional Scores in Achilles Accreditation!

We are pleased to announce our recent success in achieving impressive scores following our Achilles UVDB Category B2 Verify Year 1 Audit.

This UVDB Verify audit and assessment was undertaken independently by an Accredited Achilles Auditor and provides a rigorous assessment and demonstration of compliance of 3b’s Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality risk procedures.

This audit process took place over a comprehensive two day audit, first day being office based and second day auditing a site.

Critical milestones have been met on the construction of a new £14M state of the art Combined Heat & Power (CHP) biomass plant at Troon for Glennon Brothers.

After a busy 6 months the 3b construction site team are nearing completion of the new CHP plant; despite the extremely onerous programme the key dates were met or bettered and the works have been delivered under budget. The plant, which will process sawmill cutoffs into useable, clean energy, will deliver 10.9 MWth and 2.33 MWel energy.

In addition to the CHP plant other structures have been constructed which include walking floors, belt dryers, wood chip silos, a progressive kiln, district heating pipework and ancillary structures such as substation buildings, loading gantry and chip loading building.

The construction of the new state of the art Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant will provide the final link in transforming Glennon Brothers, Troon into a fully integrated site. Logs are delivered from the coasts and islands of Scotland by boat, to be processed in the sawmill. Some of this finished timber will then cross the road to their engineered timber facility, Alexanders Timber Design (ATD), to be incorporated into quality timber frame homes. The CHP plant will produce sufficient electrical power to power the whole plant and export up to 2.5MW of power to the National Grid. Additionally the hot water will be pumped across the road through the 1.2km long district heating pipes to provide heat for the timber drying kilns.

3b construction, acting as Principal Contractor, were able to achieve the demanding 6 month contract programme, for power to grid, as a result of their integrated approach to construction with over 90% of the construction works being delivered by their in house labour and plant which included earthworks, groundworks, reinforced concrete, structural steel framed buildings, building cladding works, M & E works and internal fit out from joinery to painting. Good collaboration between client, 3b construction, plant installation contractor, designer, QS and architect enabled a positive site team to be created which all worked together towards the shared goal.
