3b construction have designed and built whisky maturation warehouses at the edge of Loch Bunabhainneadar on the Isle of Harris.
These maturation warehouses are part of the new Isle of Harris Distillery project with the main distillery having been constructed concurrently in the village Tarbert. The project had certain challenges, which relied on careful planning and consideration. Such as 3 metres of peat, travel distances and sea crossings for suppliers, Lewisian Gneiss and most importantly the four seasons in one day climate of The Western Isles! The project consisted of earthworks, steel framed portal building with insulated cladding, reinforced concrete floor slabs and apron concrete, drainage and services works, fencing and cattle grids and, finally, M & E fit out works. All of these areas of work were completed by 3b construction’s directly employed site teams including the structural steel fabrication and erection. In fact, our site teams have been enjoying the island life for a few months and we suspect a few will be back to collect their bottles of Harris spirit at a later date! “3b contruction took the time to really understand the job, they were transparent on cost and produced real quality and value for money.“ Allison MacKinnon / Isle of Harris Distillers
