Zinc Construction

3b construction continually strive to expand their skills base by retraining employees and investing in equipment and technology that will allow us to offer new and improved services.

As a company committed to the use of long term sustainable materials it seemed a natural progression to start using zinc in the construction of newly built homes in Southern Scotland.

Zinc used in the construction of roofs and walls can easily last for a century or more. The finished materials are completely recyclable at the end of their life so will not be discarded to landfill sites.  Zinc is one of the most natural metals on the planet and is very much part of our natural environment. Before zinc is formed into panels for use in construction it begins as a natural element of the earth.

3b construction are currently incorporating zinc on a number of new house builds in Dumfries and Galloway. Zinc is most often found in the construction of roofs either as part of the roof, alongside slate, or forming the whole roofs surface. 3b construction has used zinc at West Ringuineau to form a lean – to sunroom roof, front canopy porch and dormer window.

At Deepstone and Glenhoull Hill zinc has been used across the entire roofs surface. It is particularly suitable for this as it does not rust, requires little or no maintenance, is absolutely watertight and extremely resistant to corrosion.

3b construction are currently constructing a new house entirely clad and roofed in Anthara zinc. Simon Winstanley Architects in Castle Douglas designed this new home to echo the sheet metal clad agricultural barns nearby and to be visually recessive. This stunning new house build is due to be completed in late summer.
