4 weeks before moving

Complete a change of address form at your local Post Office to ensure all mail is forwarded to your new address.
Decide if there are any items you may wish to discard either by throwing them away or giving them to a local charity.
Contact your current utility suppliers informing them of your leaving date.
3b construction will register your property with utility suppliers at your new home.
Notify your children’s old school of their departure and confirm their first day of attendance at their new school.

3 weeks before moving

Decide if you are going to use a removal firm and if so it is worthwhile contacting the British Association of Removers.
Advise Doctors and dentists of your move and if you have not already done so arrange to join medical and dental practices at your new address.
Confirm with your bank and any other financial services organisations that you are moving home and advising them of your new address and amending all transaction information.
Ensure that your home insurance policy covers your possessions during the move and that you have cover at your new address.

2 weeks before moving home

Let your employer, friends and family know your new address.
Dispose of any dangerous liquids or materials safely and with the environment in mind.
Inform providers of regular services such as the window cleaner, milkman or newspaper shop of your impending move.
Plan your journey to your new house. Do you need to arrange any accommodation en route or for the night before you move in?

1 week before moving

Make arrangements to end your telephone service at your old address and connect a telephone service at your new address.
Reconfirm your booking with the removal company you are employing to help with the move.
Transfer your television licence
Pack a bag of basic foodstuffs and everyday essentials such as tea, coffee, milk and sugar, toilet roll, shampoo and other toiletries.
Get your rugs and curtains cleaned then pack them so that they arrive in good condition at your new home.
Manage your frozen food supply by using it or passing it onto friends and family.

1 day before moving

If you have pets ensure their needs during the move are taken care of.
Defrost your freezer and clean the fridge and cooker.
Ensure all arrangements for the handover of keys at both addresses are in place and understood by all parties.

Moving Day
