With wonderful views to sea in the quiet coastal village of Port William, these 9 large homes with 3 or 4 bedrooms are perfect for those looking for an exclusive development in an exclusive location.
LOCATION Port William is set in an outstanding area of natural beauty on the eastern shore of Luce Bay in Galloway. The local primary school has an excellent reputation and the older children attend the secondary school in Newton Stewart. Built round a small working harbour the village has an interesting and varied history. On the one hand there are many important religious sites nearby but the area also abounds with tales of smuggling during the 18th Century, it is known that every farm in the area had at least one brandy hole and alleged that some still do!
SHOPPING Port William itself has excellent amenities for a village of its size. The village boasts a local post office, small grocery store and newsagents. For a wider range of high street shops Newton Stewart is only a short drive and Stranraer can be reached in 35 minutes. Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town, is only an hours drive where there are a number of excellent specialist food shops selling high quality local produce.
LEISURE Port William is a haven for those looking to lead a quieter life. The harbour is an excellent place to base a pleasure craft for summer sailing or fishing and the coastline in general will be a great attraction to anyone interested in botany and nature. Port William has a fine bowling green and at the heart of the village is a hotel, pub and restaurant. St Medans Golf Course is three miles south of the village set on a picturesque headland, with another four courses within thirty miles this is the perfect location for a golf enthusiast. Neighbouring towns only a short drive away offer plenty of artistic interest, for example Wigtown, Scotland’s designated book town has over 250000 books to choose from, and Kirkcudbright, “the artists town” boasts a fantastic selection of art galleries and craft shops. In addition to all this the nearby town of Newton Stewart boasts a recently refurbished cinema, leisure centre and swimming pool.
